Filtering aquarium tank water through three (3) internal layered baskets filled with assorted filter media material it provides extremely thorough biological, mechanical and chemical filtration.

Each External Filter in our range operates exactly the same way as our Internal Powerhead Filters but are designed to be positioned outside of your tank. Each unit draws water into the filter through an inlet tube and returns crystal clear water via an outlet tube (both supplied).
The outlet tube is fitted with a spray-bar to help increase oxygen aeration levels within your tank. These filter's are absolutely ideal for freeing-up space within your tank and provide a huge internal capacity for filter media, making them suitable for larger volume tanks.

Each model is supplied with Ceramic Rings, Bio Balls, Activated Carbon and fine filter foam. By filtering your tank using the provided filter media you will observe a vastly improved level of waste-free water through extremely strong biological purification. The filter's easy-access layered filter media basket's make it simple to customise your media choices to suit your aquarium and fish livestock needs.

Maintaining the filter is very simple. The drip-free shut-off tap allows you to remove the filter and transport it away from your aquarium fish tank to an area more suitable for cleaning. Each filter media basket lifts smoothly out of the unit and can be easily rinsed through and returned to continue its operation.

I must say that this filter is great value for money. I keep an 180 litre tank with cichlids in it and this filter keeps my water crystal clear. The water is so clear I could be tempted to drink it (but I dont lol) Well worth investing in if a good clear tank is what your after.

I got this for my axolotl tank as it seems to be just the right level of power to not agitate them whilst keeping the water crystal clean. When getting it out of the box I only had a diagram of the pump to piece it together from, as this is my first external filter I was clueless. I think I managed to get everything in place, then I set the filter up just how the instructions tell me to. I pressed the blue buckle (will explain in a second) and waited for the filter to absorb water – nothing happened. I tried this a few times, nothing happened.

After a search online I came across this video [...] which tells me exactly how to set up the filter step by step, including the missing step in the instructions “Fill the filter with water first” – I did this and hey presto it works fine. I’m not unhappy with the purchase at this point, just baffled by the silly instructions.

So here’s the extent of the instructions I got (for anything that looks insane, that is *as printed* and not me typing badly!)

    1. According to the diagrammatic representation, the buckle (1) and (2) should be unfolded at first, which will separate the main body and barrelhead.

    2. Putting the draining skeps with filter medium into the mainbody in turn. And pressing the barrel head with your hands to combine the main body and the barrelhead. Then you should fasten the buckle (1) and (2)

    3. Pulling the securing buckle to take out the input and output discreteness. After this, the input and output pipes should be installed and they will be fastened by nuts. Later, putting the input and output discreteness to the former place and press the securing buckle to fix the input and output discreteness.

    4. According to the diagrammatic representation, installing hte input and output curvy bar in the aquarium. (Notice! The curvy bar with spray bar is output curvy bar, and the curvy bar with dirtiness entrance is input curvy bar)

    5. According to the diagrammatic representation, pressing hte blue buckle forcibly and leave it immediately. The blue buckle will rebound. And the input bar absorb water into main body at the same time which compel the air out of main body through output bar. When the level of water in output bar is equal to the level of aquarium, you may electrify the equipment to make it work.

So as you can see, clear as mud. I will update later on whether the water quality is better with this pump but I want to give it an honest try. So far so good, once it works it is quiet as a dream and the water spray bar is very useful. I just wish I had looked for the video above at the start, it may have then only taken 10 minutes max to set up instead of an hour.
