Smart Solar 2 Stone Oxygenator The Smart Solar Solar Oxygenator is an ingenious air pump suitable for small to medium ponds. Working via solar power these air pumps oxygenate pond water when oxygen levels are depleted. The 2 stone pump oxygenates when the sun is shining and works on ponds up to 5000 litres. Simple to install, no wiring and no running costs. During hot weather the water temperature rises and its ability to dissolve oxygen reduces. In theory this will be at its worst during the day when the sun is beating down on your pond but there are other mitigating factors. This oxygenator has been cleverly designed to operate automatically whenever the sun is hitting the solar panel. Features suitable for small/medium ponds (up to 5000 litres) 2 air-stones (2m long tubes) separate solar panel 3m cable to solar panel air flow 180l/h no wiring, simply install and enjoy no operation costs Dimensions Length 16.5cm 96.4 inches) Width 10.2cm (4 inches)

You get what you pay for…, 13 April 2008

If you should happen to buy one of these, you’ll note that it says ‘works in full sun’. And it does mean just that. A bright but cloudy day just does not cut it.
So here in the UK you will find it does work occasionally but when it does it’s fine.
I’d get something more expensive if I were you. Solar power is a nice idea but, for the UK, perhaps something with a plug on it is a better bet.

I bought this item in March. It had parts missing but when contacting Smart the response was excellent with the missing parts sent by next days post. It is a very efficient unit and I find it even work when the sun is behind very light cloud. With the two air lines it is perfect for my little pond which is five foot square. As my fish bred last year I knew I have far too many fish in the pond of this size and wondered if it would get depleted of air, but the unit is providing adequate air and so far I have lost no fish. I would recommend this product to anyone with limited funds as it was a good price and very easy to install.

Works but noisy, 26 April 2009

Works in full sun – it has to be full sun directly on to the solar panel, which has to be positioned carefully. When it works it does produce a lot of bubbles but the pump is very noisy and it would be a problem in a small garden as you will hear the pump everywhere including in the next door garden.
It is a good product and will oxygenate a small pond on a bright sunny day when oxygen levels are depleted more.

PS Just to let you know, it is 2013 and 4 years later, it is still working (you have to change the little blue attachments every year , though).
