  • To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with fast films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, cars, seas, etc.
  • With an SLR, you can actually observe this change through the viewfinder. Polarizers reduce glare from water, glass, or any non-metallic surface. You can also use a polarizer filter to darken blue skies.
  • This lens hood is compatible with lens with 58mm filter size from Nikon Canon Sigma Tamron Sony Minolta Olympus and etc.

Features:

For 3pcs UV + CPL + FLD Filter Set

A UV filter is used to reduce UV rays from entering the lens and striking the film. Modern lenses often have UV protection built into them as well as digital sensors, however, UV filters are commonly used to help protect the surface of the lens from scratches, smudges, dirt and other hazards.
A polarizer is different than most filters in that it is composed of two pieces of glass, mounted independently inside a round frame so that one can be rotated relative to the other. As it is rotated, it increasingly cuts out glare and haze. With an SLR, you can actually observe this change through the viewfinder. Polarizers reduce glare from water, glass, or any non-metallic surface. You can also use a polarizer filter to darken blue skies.

For Lens Hood

With the Flower/ Crown/ Petal shape designed, it offers the same prevention of flare as the corresponding circular or rectangular design, but with a smaller size and a lighter weight. With screw mount can be attached to the 58mm lens or filter thread. This can lower the contrast of the image, and enables you to shoot towards the light source, and being reflected inside the lens, without excessive flare. It stops light coming into the lens at extreme angles and being reflected inside the lens. This lens hood is compatible with lens with 58mm filter size from Nikon Canon Sigma Tamron Sony Minolta Olympus and etc.

I am very much an amateur photographer so I cannot really discern things like colour creep etc. what I can say is having just used the uv filter with the lens hood for the first time in the bright blue sunshine of Orlando, it has performed brilliantly and I have some fantastic shots from seaworld. Being the first time I have used either of these items I was surprised at the depth of colour and improved exposure these gave me.

The only thing holding this back from being a 5 star review, is the fact the build quality does appear to be a tad suspect, and I’m not sure these would hold up too long. I also suspect that this might be causing a bit more blue colour temperature to bleed through but can’t be sure, as I said, I’m at the beginner end of the scale.

That said, for the cash you can’t grumble, and if you are just starting out and want to experiment with filters to find out what you might use on a more regular basis then this is probably the set for you.

Note: The maker supplied a review sample for evaluation, the opinion of the product is my own personal view

This is aimed at Canon users which use 58mm filter threads on many of the kit lenses, but it is possible to use the filters on other thread sizes using stepping rings.
    Included in the kit are:
    - Padded filter case
    - 58mm “screw on” lens hood
    - Lens cap with string and stick on retainer
    - 3 ND filters ND 2,4,8 (these give 1,2,3 stops of light reduction useful for slower shutter speeds and to convey movement)
    - 1 UV filter for lens protection
    - 1 CPL, polarisers reduce reflections on non metallic surfaces and increase contrast in skies and landscape pictures
    - 1 FLD filter this corrects colour, removing the harsh green cast caused by fluorescent bulbs

The filters are perfectly fine for quality at the asking price there are a few obvious points to make, at this price point you won’t get 20 coatings on the filters or ultra thin frames but the elements are held firmly in place with no wobbling, threads are clean and well machined and there were no obvious issues with sharpness using these. With the UV filter just watch for a bit of flare with direct sun. The supplied pouch is padded and does the job required helping keep the filters clean and protecting them

Lens hood has a thread so it screws directly into the filter thread the only drawback with this is you don’t have any filter threads but it remains useful as you don’t always use filters and a lens hood isn’t normally supplied with the kit lenses so consider this a bonus but useful item to have.

Out of all the filters the circular polariser (CPL) is the most useful for creative photography, though as with any filter there is a time to use it and not to. Being able to remove reflections (glass, water etc but not metallic objects) can be very handy for lots of types of photography, the increased contrast is liked by some for scenic work but resist the temptation to always use it dialled up the “max” but it’s a good filter to experiment with. Having 3 ND filters is worthwhile this gives you 3 of the most commonly used ones with 1,2,3 stops of light reduction these are often used to enhance movement people, water or anything else that benefits from a slower shutter speed. They exist as you can’t always reduce the light enough even using a smaller F stop in daylight even at the lowest ISO setting that’s where they come into play cutting the light directly coming into the camera lens. They can also be used to bring the flash sync speed down to the cameras rated speed you will often exceed this in daylight.

The FLD one is less likely to be used perhaps I would have picked a close up filter to enhance macro work instead it’s there if you want to try it you could use it for creative lighting effect (maybe night time shooting)

For what’s on offer in the entire kit plenty here to get stuck into, it’s a good way to start experimenting with filters without putting a large dent in your wallet . Recommended

Good value for money – not specific to Canon cameras, will work with any 58mm thread – Obviously not top quality for the price, but definitely a worthwhile investment as a “starter pack”, to try out working with various filters.
